Our mission is to instill a sense of pride and self-worth in our Puerto Rican community through the exhibition of art, music, literature, education, and civic engagement. This year we celebrate the 63rd Anniversary Puerto Rican Day Parade of Newark, NJ. This year MARKS the 10th Anniversary of the revival of the parade.

Our Parade

We honor the Puerto Rican heritage by declaring every year the third Sunday of September as Puerto Rican Day in the City of Newark. We will host a parade on this day to demonstrate our pride and appreciation for our Puerto Rican heritage.

Our Impact

Over the past year, we have helped tens of thousands individuals in our community improve within our different outreach campaigns. From food pantries, health fairs, to anti-bullying marches and more.

The Newark Puerto Rican Day Parade, Inc. (PRDP) is the largest demonstration of cultural pride in the State of  New Jersey.  Now in its 61st year, the parade takes place Broadway/Avenida Puerto Rico to Lake Street along Bloomfield Avenue in Newark, NJ in honor of the millions of inhabitants of Puerto Rico and over 5 million people residing in the United States.

Reborn in 2015, our programs and events focus on promoting Culture, Arts and Education, with special tributes to prominent, historical figures and campaigns to raise awareness of important issues in the community.  We are also committed to advancing the pursuit of higher education, awarding scholarships to students of Puerto Rican descent.

Each year, PRDP hosts a variety of cultural, educational and social, events throughout the City of Newark, NJ leading up to the day of the Parade.  These include the Sip & Paint, Domino Tournament, Voice of Poets with a Taste of Comedy, Mother’s Day Brunch, Guayaberas and Cigars, Pageant, Gala Fundraiser Banquet, Flag Raising, Boricua Music Festival, Annual Parade.

Las Cosas no Son Siempre lo Que Parecen: Cuidado con el Robo de Identidad

 

(BPT) - Los estafadores cambian constantemente de tácticas para robar su información personal identificable (PII, por sus siglas en inglés), como los nombres de usuario y contraseñas de cuentas, números de Seguro Social, fechas de nacimiento, números de tarjetas de crédito y débito, de identificación personal (PIN, por sus siglas en inglés) u otra información confidencial. Cuando la sustraen, pueden llevar a cabo delitos como el fraude financiero, que pueden resultarles a las víctimas un proceso difícil y frustrante de remediar.

El Servicio de Inspección Postal de los Estados Unidos está trabajando arduamente para impedir que estos estafadores se salgan con la suya. Usted también puede ayudar familiarizándose con las estafas de suplantación de identidad que se proponen, por medio de engaños, que usted proporcione su “ADN financiero” y les entregue su información personal identificable (PII) a los impostores.

1. Fraude electrónico (Phishing)

Si alguna vez recibe un mensaje por correo electrónico relacionado con la entrega de un paquete o cargos de envío en línea no pagados, generalmente con la línea de asunto “Notificación de entrega fallida”; tenga cuidado. Estos mensajes de phishing enviados aparentemente por el Servicio Postal de los Estados Unidos (USPS) son fraudulentos y no debe interactuar con ellos. Esos mensajes de phishing pueden contener una barra de dirección de navegador (URL) ficticia o falsificada para que la siga, o un archivo que, en caso de abrirse, puede activar un virus que resulta en el robo de su información personal.

Si recibe un mensaje electrónico de phishing:

• Trate su información personal como si fuera dinero en efectivo
• No haga clic en ningún enlace (link)
• Reenvíe correos electrónicos no solicitados relacionados con USPS a spam@uspis.gov
• Denuncie los mensajes no solicitados que no sean de USPS a la Comisión Federal de Comercio
• Borre el mensaje

2. Smishing

¿Ha recibido mensajes de texto no solicitados a su celular con un enlace web desconocido o extraño indicando una entrega de USPS que requiere su respuesta? Probablemente se trate de una estafa conocida como smishing. Este tipo de mensaje de texto engañoso insta a los destinatarios a proporcionar información personal o financiera. Con frecuencia, los estafadores intentan hacerse pasar por una agencia gubernamental, un banco u otra empresa para dar legitimidad a sus afirmaciones.

Incluso si se ha inscrito en el servicio de seguimiento de USPS, preste mucha atención al mensaje. El Servicio Postal nunca le pedirá PII en un mensaje de texto. Tampoco lo reorientará a otro sitio para el pago; ni le enviará un mensaje de texto, a menos que usted haya iniciado la solicitud.

Si recibe un mensaje de texto smishing supuestamente del Servicio Postal:

• No haga clic en el enlace
• No responda
• Reenvíe el mensaje de texto al 7726 o envíe un mensaje a spam@uspis.gov
• Denuncie el fraude que no sea de USPS a la Comisión Federal de Comercio
• Borre el mensaje
• Bloquee los mensajes “basura” (spam)
• Revise su factura de teléfono celular para ver si hay cargos sospechosos
• Mantenga actualizado su software de seguridad

3. Mensajes de voz fraudulentos (Vishing)

Es posible que haya disfrutado con “el juego del teléfono” en su juventud. Sin embargo, las llamadas de estafadores que intentan obtener su información personal no tienen nada de divertido. El vishing, nuevo giro del phishing, es algo que debe tener en cuenta. Vishing es la abreviatura de “phishing de voz”, y los estafadores intentarán engancharle tan pronto como conteste el teléfono.

A continuación, le explicamos cómo detectarlo.

Los estafadores llaman desde un número que puede parecerle conocido, o aparentar incluso ser de una fuente legítima como su banco o una agencia gubernamental. La persona que llama, sin embargo, es cualquier cosa menos legítima. Probablemente le comunique que hay una dificultad con su cuenta, o un problema que requiere su atención inmediata. Si recibe un mensaje proveniente de una dirección de correo electrónico o un mensaje de texto desconocidos, o encuentra un cartel en un lugar con mucho tráfico, no lo escanee. Si lo hace, el código QR podría llevarlo al sitio web de un estafador (que puede parecer legítimo), pero está concebido para sustraerle su PII.

Si encuentra o recibe un código QR sospechoso:

• No lo escanee, especialmente si el mensaje o cartel le insta a actuar de inmediato
• Denuncie el código QR al banco, agencia gubernamental o empresa por la que se hace pasar el estafador
• Bloquee los mensajes fraudulentos

Protéjase a sí mismo y a los demás teniendo precaución y reportando a las autoridades correspondientes los mensajes de correo electrónicos, mensajes de texto, llamadas, mensajes de voz y códigos QR sospechosos.
