Jeep Wrangler 4xe Review: Pros, Cons, and Battery Issues Explained

 jeep wrangler 4xe

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Jeep’s first plug-in hybrid for their iconic off-road vehicle, brings a mix of rugged performance and electric efficiency, but it hasn’t been without issues—especially concerning its high-voltage battery. The Wrangler 4xe pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with electric motors, achieving around 21 miles of electric-only range, and has gained attention as a more eco-conscious option in the Jeep lineup. However, there have been several challenges with its battery that Jeep has addressed through recalls and updates.

One significant issue with the Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s battery has been overheating in the high-voltage battery pack, which could lead to power loss. Some models experienced a problem due to incorrect fasteners on the 200-amp fuse, causing overheating, which could potentially lead to complete power failure while driving. Jeep issued a recall for over 2,500 Wrangler 4xe models manufactured between January 2022 and September 2022, promising to replace the fuse assembly or, if necessary, the entire battery pack for affected vehicles. Dealers have been advised to inspect these models, and Jeep has provided instructions to replace defective components free of charge for owners.

Consumer Reports

More recently, Jeep has also been investigating a possible fire risk in certain Wrangler 4xe models from 2021-2022. Owners were advised to stop charging the vehicle and to park it away from structures due to concerns over potential fires originating from the high-voltage battery. Stellantis, Jeep's parent company, is conducting further analysis on these battery packs and has requested a voluntary recall for software updates and possible battery replacements, aiming to resolve the issue without risk to owners. This recall and investigation emphasize Jeep's commitment to safety, as they work to implement long-term solutions to prevent overheating and fire risks.

Mopar Insiders

Looking forward, Jeep has taken a proactive approach, focusing on both immediate fixes and a longer-term solution involving updated high-voltage battery software. Owners affected by these issues are expected to receive notification in early 2024, with repair work covered at no additional cost. Although these recalls have been a setback, they illustrate Jeep’s dedication to addressing problems swiftly and transparently to maintain safety and customer satisfaction.

Despite these battery issues, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe remains a popular model, accounting for a significant portion of Wrangler sales. Its ability to blend electric efficiency with Jeep’s traditional off-road performance makes it a unique choice in the growing plug-in hybrid market. With Jeep actively working on resolving battery issues, the Wrangler 4xe may still be an appealing option for those looking to balance environmental consciousness with adventure.

The Fairness of Limited Liability

 limited liability

Limited Liability

Limited liability is one of the most successful commercial creations of all time, almost singularly responsible for the growth and expansion of capitalism. Encouraging risk and promoting successful enterprise through both small and large businesses alike, limited liability has been the driving force behind economic success in the Western world and is one of the most celebrated legal creations of all time. But what is it about limited liability that makes it so successful? Indeed, is the structure of limited liability fair as regards creditors, who ultimately bear the brunt of this mechanism?

Limited liability in general means a sacrifice of privacy in return for the benefit of limited personal liability. In layman's terms, this means that the company promoter is not personally liable for any of the company's debts, thus encouraging risk and promoting enterprise. For most small businesses, it is a lifeline, and without it the economy would level out and stifle with fewer new start-ups each year. At the back end, however, these businesses leave behind a trail of debts that ultimately result in financial loss for lenders and those that operate on credit terms. This raises the general question of whether limited liability as a creation is fair for the creditors it so apparently prejudices?

Advantages and Protections

Limited liability has given life to companies across the world, by providing the reassurances necessary to entrepreneurs to take the risk, safe in the knowledge that personally speaking they should come out unscathed. From this, more companies have grown and flourished, which has led to more jobs and better state welfare for virtually all capitalist economies. The strength of this function has gone a long way towards building the great superpowers, and is seriously underestimated as a legal construct.

Limited liability leaves a gap in the pockets of those companies that lend money or offer their customers credit terms during the course of their business. As a consequence of the promoter's ability to walk away with his hands clean, many businesses find the squeeze of bad debts too severe, and end up having to take on credit of their own to meet the shortcomings. In theory, limited liability leaves creditors in a weak situation, with relatively limited powers to regain the full amount of any monies due.

Is it Really Working?

In reality, limited liability doesn't operate in that way. Of course, many businesses go under every year as their owners walk free of encumbrance, but generally speaking the economic world does not work between insolvent companies. However, the flexibility allowed by limited liability has meant debt in a sense has become effective currency, and has helped businesses to survive during tough times, and to seek the financial help necessary without the appropriate risk.

Limited liability might be seen as slightly unfair at the razor's edge, but it works all round to ensure that everyone has access to credit and the benefits of limitation of damages when it is necessary. Ultimately, it promotes a more competitive, lower-risk environment within which business can flourish and economies can grow and multiply, providing jobs and economic strength to nations embracing its basic form. As legal fictions go, the limited company has undoubtedly prove itself to be one of the most popular ever created, and its growth looks set to continue as it is developed and refined across the world.

Steps to Take for Individuals with Unfiled Tax Returns

 irs back taxes

Filing tax returns is a legal obligation for anyone and everyone earning an income above a certain amount in the United States.

But life can sometimes throw you curveballs, and filing taxes ends up being on the bottom of your to do list. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

Unfortunately, the IRS does not turn a cheek, and the potential ramifications for not filing your taxes can result in major consequences like penalties, interest charges, and even potential legal problems.

For anyone with unfiled tax returns, pay close attention to all of the steps listed in this article.

Understanding Unfiled Tax Returns

Unfiled tax returns refer to the tax forms that individuals are required to submit to the IRS but have not filed for one or more tax years.

Regardless of the reason, it’s important to not let too much time lapse. It’s always best to address your unfiled tax returns as soon as possible to avoid escalating any potential penalties and legal consequences.

Potential Penalties for Non-Filing

The IRS may impose some significant penalties and consequences for not filing your tax returns. Here are some of the more common penalties that they issue:

  1. Failure-to-File Penalty: This penalty accrues at a rate of 5% of the unpaid taxes per month, up to a maximum of 25% of the unpaid tax amount. It will apply to the net amount that is due after accounting for any payments and credits.
  2. Failure-to-Pay Penalty: If taxes are owed but not paid by the filing deadline, a failure-to-pay penalty gets applied. This penalty accrues at 0.5% of the unpaid tax amount per month, also capped at 25%.
  3. Interest Charges: In addition to penalties, interest accrues on the unpaid tax balance. The interest rate is determined quarterly and compounded daily, reflecting the cost of borrowing as set by the IRS.
  4. Legal Action: Continuously complying with filing requirements may result in legal action, including IRS collection efforts, levies on wages and bank accounts. In addition, you could also be facing a $10,000 fine, and a year in prison, for every unfiled income tax return, as it’s considered a misdemeanor in the U.S. for not filing a legally due tax return.

Steps to Take for Filing Overdue Tax Returns

While this information may seem alarming or overwhelming, don’t allow it to paralyze you from moving forward. It is crucial to take action. You want to take care of your unfiled tax returns as soon as possible because the amount you will owe will just continue to grow.

Start taking action with these steps:

Step 1: Gather Necessary Information

  • Income Documents: Collect all W-2s, 1099s, and any other income statements for each tax year.
  • Expense Records: Gather any and all receipts and documentation for deductions, credits, and expenses claimed.
  • Previous Tax Returns: Obtain copies of previously filed tax returns, if available.

Step 2: Prepare and Submit Delinquent Tax Returns

  • Download Forms: Access the necessary IRS forms for each tax year requiring filing.
  • Complete Forms: Fill out the appropriate tax forms accurately, reflecting income, deductions, and credits for each year.
  • Submit Returns: Mail completed tax returns to the IRS for each applicable tax year. Consider sending them via certified mail to track delivery.

Step 3: Address Tax Payment Options

  • Payment Plans: If taxes are owed but cannot be paid in full, consider applying for a payment plan (installment agreement) with the IRS.
  • Offers in Compromise: In cases of significant financial hardship, explore the option of settling tax debts for less than the full amount owed through an Offer in Compromise.

Penalty Abatement: Request abatement of penalties if reasonable cause can be demonstrated for the failure to file or pay taxes.

Sembrando Herencia 2024 – Más Que Pantalones

Más Que Pantalones
Sembrando Herencia 2024

22nd Original Community Theater Production
with special guest Rupert Reyes

December 14-15, 2024

Join the Puerto Rican Cultural Center in Austin as we step into the past to explore the world of Luisa Capetillo—a fearless Puerto Rican woman who dared to put on pants, stand up for her beliefs, and inspire a movement for workers’ and women’s rights in the early 1900s. She was a poet, a mother, and a revolutionary who challenged society, not just with her words and her choice of clothing, but with her life.

“Más Que Pantalones,“ the 22nd original Musical written by Tekina-eiru Maynard, is brought to life by the dancers, musicians, martial artists, cast and crew of Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance, the official performing company of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center in Austin, TX. The story is inspired by the life of Luisa Capetillo–labor union leader, activist, writer, anarchist, and spiritist–who tirelessly defended the rights of women and poor agricultural workers. Despite her important contributions in the early 20th century as a passionate labor movement leader, she is most popularly remembered as the first Puerto Rican woman who dared to wear pants in defiance of traditions of the time.

Based in oral and documented history, this historical fiction is written in English, Spanish, and Taino. Set in the mid 1970s and circa 1917, it honors early 20th century female labor union leaders who fought for the rights of women and laborers and opened the doors to feminism in Puerto Rico! Traditions inherited from our Boricua Taino ancestors are also included!

The original script, music and choreographies feature original Jíbaro, Salón (Vals & Mazurka), Plena, Bomba, and Taíno music.

Special Guest Rupert Reyes–celebrated Latino playwright, actor, and director–joins our cast of actors, dancers, musicians, and Cocobalé fighters–to bring history to life!

Six Reasons to Visit Puerto Rico This Holiday Season

(BPT) - Did you know Puerto Rico celebrates one of the longest holiday seasons in the world? The holiday season lasts about 45 days, from Thanksgiving Day through mid-January.

During the holiday season, the Island is alive with colorful decorations, delicious food, authentic music and grand festivals to mark different points of the season.

If you want to have a truly magical holiday experience this year, check out these six reasons why you should consider visiting Puerto Rico this winter.

1. Festivities

Get ready to experience the party that never stops. During the extended holiday season, you can participate in several vibrant festivities, including multiday events. Puerto Ricans begin decorating for the holidays right after Thanksgiving, if not sooner, and leave the décor on display well into January.

You’re probably used to Christmas Day being the most important day of the holiday season, but in Puerto Rico, nothing is more important than Nochebuena, or Christmas Eve. On Nochebuena, family and friends have dinner, exchange gifts, go out on parrandas and maybe even attend a midnight mass.

On Dec. 31, ring in the New Year at a Víspera de Año Nuevo celebration. At midnight, Puerto Ricans celebrate the arrival of the new year with fireworks over an ocean view under the moon and starlight.

Christmas Eve isn’t the only time to exchange gifts. In January, Puerto Ricans celebrate Three Kings Day, which commemorates the Three Wise Men's visit after Jesus was born. Across the Island, you’ll see parades with people dressed like the Three Wise Men handing out presents to children. Kids also gather grass or hay in shoeboxes and place them under beds for the Three Wise Men’s animals in exchange for presents.

Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián or SanSe — the largest and most popular festival in Puerto Rico — officially closes the holiday season. The party ends in Old San Juan with a lively street festival with music, dancing, traditional food and artisanal crafts.

2. Food

One of the best ways to explore a culture is through authentic dishes, and there’s no better season to savor authentic Boricua cuisine than the holidays. Get ready to indulge in arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), lechón asado (spit-roasted pork), pasteles (tamal-like patties of green banana and meat) and other flavorful dishes.

No holiday is complete without a signature drink. Eggnog may come to mind, but in Puerto Rico, locals drink coquito. This thick, creamy holiday beverage is made of coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, local rum and spices.

3. Music

Merry music and musical traditions are key elements of the holidays in Puerto Rico. Throughout the whole season, you’ll witness parrandas, the Boricua version of caroling. Small groups visit friends and family late at night and wake them with aguinaldos, villancicos and trovas — local folk versions of Christmas songs. As the parranderos visit homes, they’ll sing, eat, drink and spread holiday cheer all over the Island until sunrise.

4. Weather

Ready to escape the cold winter weather? Take advantage of Puerto Rico’s warm weather this holiday season! In Puerto Rico, you can enjoy a sunny festive season, with an average temperature of 70-85 degrees F from November-January.

The warm weather also means you can enjoy outdoor activities like swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and hiking in a temperate, tropical climate. So, shed your layers and trade snow for sand and chilly winds for a gentle ocean breeze.

5. Accessibility

No passport? No problem! American citizens and permanent residents can visit the Island with just a valid ID to enter Puerto Rico.

You won’t have any difficulty finding flights to the Heart and Soul of the Caribbean. There are several short, convenient flights from the U.S. mainland to the heart of Puerto Rico, including direct routes from major cities like New York, Chicago and Dallas.

If you haven’t brushed up on your Spanish, you’re in luck because the two official languages on the Island are English and Spanish. Also, you won’t need to worry about exchanging currency. Puerto Rico uses the U.S. dollar, so you’ll have no problem buying last-minute Christmas gifts and souvenirs.

6. Live Boricua

Boricua — the Puerto Rican identity — is more than just a name. It’s a state of mind. When you Live Boricua, you can immerse yourself in the joy of life that is at the center of Puerto Rico and shared by its people and all who visit. During your holiday trip, embrace the rich traditions, warm hospitality and festive atmosphere of the Island so you can create memories to last a lifetime.

Parrandas in Puerto Rico a Christmas Tradition

 Parranda

In Puerto Rico, the holiday season is a time of unparalleled joy and togetherness, with traditions deeply rooted in the island's vibrant culture. Among these traditions, parrandas stand out as one of the most spirited and cherished. Often referred to as Puerto Rico’s version of Christmas caroling, parrandas are more than just singing—they are dynamic expressions of community, music, and festivity that bring people together in celebration.

What Are Parrandas?

A parranda is essentially a musical gathering where a group of friends and family members, armed with instruments and holiday cheer, visit homes to sing traditional Puerto Rican Christmas songs, known as aguinaldos. These impromptu serenades typically happen at night, often starting around 10 PM and lasting into the early hours of the morning.

The essence of parrandas lies in their spontaneity. While the first stop is usually prearranged with the host, subsequent homes are chosen on the spot, creating an element of surprise for both the participants and the homeowners. The group grows as each visited household joins the parranda, making the procession louder, livelier, and more joyful as the night goes on.

Instruments and Songs

Music is the heartbeat of parrandas. Traditional Puerto Rican instruments like the cuatro (a small guitar-like instrument), güiro (a percussion instrument scraped with a stick), maracas, and bongos are staples of the celebration. Other instruments, such as tambourines, guitars, or even improvised items like pots and pans, often add to the lively soundscape.

The songs performed during parrandas are usually aguinaldos, folk compositions with a festive, religious, or humorous tone. Popular tunes include “Asalto Navideño” and “Dame la Mano Paloma,” which reflect themes of faith, family, and gratitude. The lyrics often involve witty exchanges, playful teasing, and heartfelt expressions of goodwill.

The Spirit of an "Asalto Navideño"

A unique aspect of parrandas is the element of the asalto navideño, or “Christmas raid.” This refers to the surprise arrival of the parranderos (the participants) at a home. The host family is expected to welcome the group warmly, offering refreshments such as traditional Puerto Rican treats. The evening’s fare often includes coquito (a coconut-based holiday drink similar to eggnog), pasteles (a type of tamale made with plantains and meat), arroz con dulce (sweet rice pudding), and other seasonal dishes.

Once the host has served food and drinks, the group resumes their journey to the next unsuspecting home. This cycle of music, laughter, and feasting continues until the early hours, creating a night of shared memories and festive camaraderie.

Cultural Significance

Parrandas are deeply embedded in Puerto Rico’s cultural identity, embodying the island's values of unity, joy, and hospitality. They are more than just a musical tradition; they are a way of strengthening social bonds and honoring the island's heritage. In the face of challenges like hurricanes, economic hardships, and political struggles, parrandas serve as a reminder of resilience and the power of community.

This tradition also reflects the blending of cultural influences in Puerto Rican society. The music and rhythms of parrandas have roots in the island’s Spanish, African, and indigenous Taíno heritage, showcasing the rich tapestry of Puerto Rican culture.

Parrandas in Modern Times

Though parrandas remain a vibrant tradition, modern lifestyles have introduced some changes. Urban settings and busy schedules sometimes make it challenging to organize traditional parrandas. However, Puerto Ricans have found ways to keep the spirit alive. Community events, school celebrations, and church gatherings often include organized parrandas, ensuring that younger generations experience and participate in this beloved custom.

In the diaspora, Puerto Ricans living abroad have also adapted parrandas to their new environments, bringing the sounds and spirit of the tradition to cities around the world. Whether in New York, Orlando, or beyond, parrandas continue to be a powerful expression of Puerto Rican identity.

Conclusion

Parrandas are a cornerstone of Puerto Rico’s Christmas celebrations, embodying the island’s love for music, community, and festivity. They are a joyous reminder of the importance of togetherness and the enduring power of cultural traditions. Whether you’re a participant or a lucky host, experiencing a parranda is an unforgettable way to celebrate the holidays, Puerto Rican style.

This holiday season, if you find yourself in Puerto Rico—or among Puerto Ricans—be prepared for the possibility of a late-night visit filled with music, laughter, and plenty of coquito. ¡Felices fiestas!
